We now need someone who can maximise our position in this increasingly fierce marketplace.
The role of the Energy Meteorologist is designed to support the trading desks in Centrica (both as Accord and British Gas Trading) within their daily activities as short to medium range weather forecasts are critical for enabling commercially sound trading and balancing decisions. In addition, the role will assist in the identification, analysis and subsequent reporting of the longer term weather exposure from both a gas and electricity perspective.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Prepare and provide timely and accurate daily weather forecasts to the energy and weather traders
* Evaluate and recommend appropriate models used in producing the forecasts for the Gas and Power forecasting teams
* Manage and maintain the centrally located database for all weather variables
* Provide input on the weather factors enabling well informed decisions on commodity hedging activities via the Gas and Power Hedging Groups
* Identify and assimilate current research into forecasting techniques
* Assist and analyse with other teams, the risk dynamics of weather products so that the optimal weather hedging portfolio is constructed

Qualifications:
* Degree in Meteorology or related subject

* Work experience at the Meteorological Office or any other established weather forecasting company
* Ability to work in a pressurised environment
