Working titles of 2 open PhD positions:
(1) High-precision FTIR sounding of CO2 column densities and validation
of the Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO) mission
(2) High-precision FTIR sounding of CH4 und N2O column densities and
vertical profiles and validation of the environmental satellite (ENVISAT)

Job description:
* further development of inversion algorithms for ground-based solar
FTIR spectrometry for high-precision retrieval of column densities and
vertical profiles of the Kyoto gases CO2, CH4, and N2O
* analysis of ground-based FTIR long-term measurements with respect to
CO2, CH4, and N2O
* geophysical validation of the CH4 and CO2 data products of the
satellite instrument ENVISAT/SCIAMACHY and the NASA mission OCO
* test and application of new validation strategies to deal with "miss
integration errors"

Team:
We offer continuous supervision within a young team and a position at a
very well equipped institute (e.g., two high-resolution infrared
spectrometers, Bruker IFS 125 HR) located at an attractive venue.
